What is BSI+?
TOMRA’s Biometric Signature Identification is a hyperspectral spatial scanning technology. It uses 32 signals to inform our machine on the color and other material attributes structure of the product including oils, and moisture content. The result is new possibilities for detecting foreign materials and quality defects.
BSI+ lasers can be set up using a wide variety of configurations depending on whether you apply it to:
- Large foreign materials (soy, corn, bones, sticks, stones);
- Quality defects (allergens, mold, cross contamination, aflatoxin); or
- A combination of foreign material and quality defects
Fast facts:
- Started in 1996 with 1st generation BSI developed for TOMRA Recycling
- +/- 4,000 TOMRA sorters in the field using BSI technology
- Currently 5th generation BSI+ designed for food industry
